Open Educational Resources (OER) in Higher Education

The free self-study course at TU Graz (MOOC) introduces the concept of Open Educational Resources for students and lecturers at universities. Open Educational Resources (OER for short) are educational materials that are freely accessible and can be edited, adapted, and shared without violating copyrights. This succeeds because so-called "open licenses" or public domain materials are used for this purpose. This course introduces the concept of Open Educational Resources for students and teachers at universities.

Successful participation can be credited towards the NRW Certificate Professional teaching skills for the university in the subject area "Lehren und Lernen" (10 AE).

Accessible from May 6, 2024

Registration and organizational matters

The University didactics courses run by the BZH cater to the needs of the University of Bonn teaching staff, including contract lecturers. Unless stated otherwise, the courses are also open to teachers of university didactics employed at member institutions of the “Hochschuldidaktik NRW” network. Priority in admissions is accorded to the teachers at the University of Bonn.

Unless stated otherwise, the university didactics courses run at the BZH are conducted in German. Active participation in a workshop or course requires German skills at the C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Workshops are held in German if not explicitly stated otherwise. In order to actively participate, German language skills on CEFR level C1 are strongly recommended. If you do not speak German on the recommended level and have questions on teaching and learning which you would like to ask or ideas on teaching and learning which you would like to discuss, please contact the BZH to make an appointment for an individual consultation.

Places on the courses are allocated chronologically following the date on which the applications were received. Full-time lecturers at the University of Bonn will be admitted immediately, capacity permitting. Other interested persons will be placed on the waiting list. Their applications will be considered three weeks before the start of the workshop or course, capacity permitting. Those admitted will receive confirmation.

A workshop will only take place if we receive sufficient registrations. The BZH usually decides two weeks before the start of each workshop or course, whether it has attracted sufficient participants to proceed or if it has to be canceled.

Participation in all the University didactics training provided by the BZH is currently available free-of-charge for both internal and external users.

Please bear in mind that the training provided by the BZH is expensive to provide. This conditioned the decision to establish a withdrawal procedure which provides participants with a high degree of flexibility and enables us to maintain a waiting list for participation.

If you are unable to attend a workshop for which you have registered, please withdraw at least seven days before the start of the workshop:

Those forced to withdraw at short notice should inform us by email.

In cases of repeated non-participation without prior cancellation, the BZH reserves the right to exclude applicants from participation in further university didactics workshops or courses.
