Key Skills for students

In view of increasingly heterogeneous entry qualifications at the interface between scholl and university, the University of Bonn endeavors to develop adequate offers in the sense of internally differentiated measures that “enable - support - challenge - differentiate” and make diversity a productive asset for academic teaching and learning.
The precourse program, launched by the faculties as part of the Bund-Länder-Program for better study conditions and higher quality in teaching, is a first step towards facilitating the transition from school to university with regard to content knowledge.

Additionally, there is a growing need for cross-discipline key skills, with possibly different emphases across subjects. On request, the BZH supports the subjects as part of its own quality management in determinig existing demands in this respect and in the development of suitable offers. In this way, a range of seminars that complements the study programs in each subject will be gradually established and continuously developed.
Academic key skills such as reading and producing scientific literature, efficient learning or teaching techniques are particularly relevant for academic success, as well as the transition into professional life or an academic career. As a joint project initiative with the Faculty of Arts, the BZH, in cooperation with the Department of Intercultural Communication and Multilingualism Research (Abteilung für interkulturelle Kommunikation und Mehrsprachigkeitsforschung (IKM)), operates the Writing Lab of the University of Bonn. The courses offered by the Writing Lab have so far been aimed primarily at undergraduate students from the Faculty of Arts. Students of the participating programs can register for the courses via BASIS during the respective registration phases.
